Rebuilding a Japantown Landmark
A historic community hub—reimagined for the next generation of San Francisco.

For over a century, Kinmon Gakuen has been a cornerstone of San Francisco’s Japantown—bringing generations together through education, culture, and community.
Today, we are restoring and reimagining this historic building to serve as a vibrant hub for the next generation.
Kinmon Gakuen, circa 1927
Why this matters now
With $9.5 million already secured from public sources, we are now working to complete the final phase of funding through private support.
This next chapter will bring new life to Kinmon Gakuen—creating space for language education, cultural programs, and community gatherings that reflect the evolving spirit of Japantown.
The renewed Kinmon Gakuen will include:

-
Modern classrooms for language and cultural education
-
A flexible auditorium for performances and community events
-
A full-service kitchen supporting gatherings and programming
-
A welcoming space for the broader San Francisco community
